RUEDI & ALLGOWER Classification for Pilon Fracture

The pilon fracture represents a severe bone injury affecting the lower section of the tibia near the ankle joint. High-energy trauma events like motor vehicle accidents, falls from great heights and serious sports injuries typically cause this fracture.

Ovadia and Beals Classification for Pilon Fracture

The Ovadia and Beals Classification is a modified system of RUEDI & ALLGOWER Classification used to classify Pilon fractures of the distal tibia based on the involvement of the articular surface and the degree of comminution.

Bernt & Hardy classification

Stage 1: Non-Displaced Compression.

Stage 2: Partially detached the cartilage from the underlying bone.

Stage 3: Complete cartilage detachment from the underlying bone (non-displaced).

Stage 4: Severe damage to both the cartilage and the underlying bone (displaced fragment).

Tillaux-Chaput fracture: An avulsion  of AITFL fracture from anterolateral distal tibia.

Wagstaffe fracture: Avulsion of the AITFL attachment on the anteromedial fibula.

Volkmann fracture: PITFL avulsion from the posterolateral tibia.

Bosworth fracture: Posterior fibular entrapment behind the tibia with PITFL disruption.
